Familia Nin-Ortiz continues to blow us away, and we were thrilled to secure a good chunk of their Planetes de Nin Classic bottling!
The winery was founded by Ester Nin and Carles Ortiz, two like-minded viticulturists who are firmly devoted to biodynamic and organic principles. This dynamic duo practices what they preach, and all of their wines meet those guidelines, and there is minimal intervention in the winery.
Planetes de Nin Classico is a well-balanced blend of two different types of Grenache and a touch of Carignan. All the fruit for this wine comes from, not surprisingly, the Finca Les Planetes vineyard, a 5-hectare plot of vines in the outskirts of the village of Porrera. The freshness and brightness of Planetes is a testament to the relatively cooler, northeast-facing aspect of the site as well as the hands-off approach that Carles and Ester take in the cellar.
This is a crazy opportunity to stock up on a 96-point wine that is drinking amazingly well right now but can also last in the cellar. It is a true rarity to see a 96-point score from Robert Parker's Wine Advocate attached to a wine at this price point, and everyone needs to take advantage!
"The 2021 Planetes de Nin Clàssic is a blend of 46% Garnacha, 25% Garnacha Peluda and 29% full-cluster Carignan, the blend they were aiming for and achieved in 2019. The wine has peppery and spicy notes, with a very fine thread and is super elegant on the palate. It's subtle, balanced and elegant, nuanced and insinuating. The wine spent 18 months in 3,200-liter oak foudre. It follows the style of 2019 and 2020. It has 13.5% alcohol, a pH of 3.2 and 5.4 grams of acidity. 14,660 bottles produced. It was bottled in April 2023. Drink Date: 2024 - 2034" - 96 Points Luis Gutierrez, Robert Parker's Wine Advocate
