The Seahawks signed Sam Darnold to a multi-year contract on Thursday, bringing the former Vikings Pro-Bowl quarterback to Seattle to lead a new-look offense.
Darnold, 27, is coming off the best season of his career, having earned Pro-Bowl honors after throwing for 4,319 yards, 35 touchdowns and 12 interceptions while helping lead the Vikings to a 14-3 record.
And coming off of that breakout season that made him one of the top free agents in this year's class, Darnold is coming to Seattle where he will be reunited with new Seahawks offensive coordinator, Klint Kubiak. The two also worked together in San Francisco in 2023 when Kubiak was the 49ers' passing game coordinator and Darnold was the backup to Brock Purdy on a team that reached the Super Bowl.
After three seasons as Seattle's starting quarterback, Geno Smith is headed to Las Vegas.
The Seahawks made a significant change to their offense to kick off the new league year, trading Smith to the Raiders in exchange for a third-round pick.
In exchange for Smith, the Seahawks are receiving a third-round pick from the Raiders, the 92nd overall pick.
The Seahawks traded DK Metcalf to the Steelers Thursday, sending the two-time Pro-Bowl receiver to Pittsburgh in exchange for a second-round pick, No. 52 overall. The Seahawks are also sending a sixth-round pick (No.185) to Pittsburgh and getting back a seventh-rounder (No. 223) as part of the deal.
The move marks the end of a very productive six-year run in Seattle for Metcalf, who arrived as a 2019 second-round pick out of Mississippi.
