Good Morning Sabah People,

Ever so often, we come across a totally novel material out in the world, and excited by its look, composition, or both, we wonder whether or not we could turn it into a Baba.

That happened earlier this year when we were presented an original material made from recycled coffee grounds and natural cork — promising the durability of leather, the softness of fabric, and to be as eye-catching as ever. Developed as an environmentally friendly option, this “Cork Leather” as its called is also easy to clean, stain resistant, and waterproof to name a few. 

A handful of Baba samples out of our El Paso workshop later, we were impressed.

So today, we are excited to introduce a very limited run of just 98 pairs of the Sumatra Baba — now available on the Sabah Portal & at all Sabah Houses. Enjoy!

Meet Jesse Rowe, Zebra Room.

We spent an afternoon with Jesse Rowe, a men's wear designer, who opened Zebra Room in Germantown, NY. He wore our new Sumatra Babas for the occasion.

Zebra Room, housed inside a beautiful old barn on Germantown's Main Street, is a reflection of Jesse's deep appreciation & eye for design, craft & quality. "danish imports x coffee x goods" reads their Instagram bio, but that doesn't reflect the deep attention to detail, and nor does it mention Jesse's very cool Japanese listening room inside the space too. Zebra Room is multifaceted.

Whether it's for an Espresso Tonic pulled low & slow from Jesse's traditional German coffee machine, or to find a perfect piece for your house or closet, Zebra Room is one of the more captivating places we've come across in a long, long while -- and absolutely worthy of a pilgrimage. Of course, getting to spend a little time with Jesse is the cherry on top.

Our Carmel visit is off to a great start and, the good news, we'll be posted up at Tancredi & Morgen for 8 more days through August 4. From there, we head to SoCal -- find us in West Hollywood from Aug 8-18 with NORBLACK NORWHITE and then at Wittmore to finish our trip in Malibu, Aug 22-25. See you out there!
