2021 Dutton-Goldfield "Redwood Ridge (Putnam Vineyard)" Sonoma Coast Pinot Noir (Elsewhere $70) ($29.95) ”A Pinot just brimming with natural intensity... a pretty showstopping wine from longtime Sonoma icon Dutton Goldfield.” — Ryan Woodhouse, K&L Domestic Wine Buyer Sourced from the Putnam Vineyard in the Annapolis sub-region of the Sonoma Coast, this wine comes from a small, family-owned vineyard situated just above the fog line, only 5 miles from the Pacific Ocean. Founded in 1998, Dutton-Goldfield Winery was born when longtime friends and colleagues Steve Dutton and Dan Goldfield realized they shared a vision: to produce wines that capture the essence of their cool-climate vineyards and are crafted to be truly enjoyed. Certified sustainable, Dutton-Goldfield’s commitment to the incredible Sonoma Coast terroir only enhances the quality of their wines. Undergoing a five-day cold soak before fermentation in open-top tanks with hand punchdowns, the wine was then aged for 20 months in high-quality French oak barrels. This bottling is Burgundian in style but distinctly Californian in profile—an incredible find, especially with our exclusive pricing. 
93 points Wine Spectator: "Ripe and enticing, with alluring flavors of raspberry, mulberry and blackberry fruit suavely infused with notes of black tea and singed anise, plus a mesquite hint. A Pinot just brimming with natural intensity. This vineyard sits on a mountainous ridge 1000ft above the Pacific Ocean in the small coastal hamlet of Annapolis. Sitting largely above the fog line, but still getting the full brunt of the cooling ocean air, this wine is beautiful ripeness and concentration whilst retaining fresh, vibrant, piquant acidity. Spiced cherry, pomegranate, crushed raspberry with some darker brambly, blackberry notes. A fruit-forward and exotic wine with luxurious oak spices guiding the energetic fruit into line. Layered and powerful, but with cool climate vitality and energy. This is a pretty showstopping wine from longtime Sonoma icon Dutton Goldfield. The too-low-to-show, Insider's Advantage pricing on this wine is just incredible. This will continue to impress for 5-8 years or more, so grab a few for now, and stash some away in your cellar for down the road...you won't regret it! |
