We've been fortunate enough to have tasted most vintages of Barde-Haut many times, whether at the estate on our annual visits, or part of our recent library acquisition. While Hélène Garcin’s portfolio consistently yields exceptional finds, the 2015 vintage stands out as one of the best from this property. It beautifully combines luxurious textures and flavors with a modern sense of refinement, and it has been aging gracefully over the past nine years. Delicious now, but with a long road ahead, there's no doubt that Barde-Haut is at its finest in 2015.

Jeb Dunnuck:
"An awesome Saint Emilion, the 2015 Château Barde-Haut showed even better on this occasion than on release. A huge nose of sweet crème de cassis, jammy blackberries, violets, leather, and dried herbs gives way to a full-bodied wine that has a great mid-palate, ripe, silky tannins, not a hard edge to be found, and a great, great finish." James Suckling:
"Aromas of blackberries, blueberries, wet earth and black tea. Full-bodied, dense and layered with medium, chewy tannins and a flavorful finish. Shows focus and power." (02/2018)

"The 2015 Barde-Haut has a lovely bouquet with black cherries, raspberry and crushed stone, wilted rose petal and iris flower emerging with time. The palate is finely chiseled with crisp acidity, much more precision than previous vintages and added sustain on the finish. A turning point for this Saint-Émilion estate. (NM)" (06/2021)

Usually one of the top high-end values in Bordeaux, Barde-Haut's 2015 take things to another level. Aromatically it is incredibly intriguing, nuanced, and dynamic. While the core seems very traditional St-Emilion, there is a wild blue fruit note that keeps showing through. The palate shows terrific focus and balance, certainly dialed back from the bigger, more flamboyant styles of, say, 2009 or 2010. But qualitatively it should be in the same conversation. A bright burst of acidity carries deep red fruits, hints of earth, minerality, and mouth-coating tannins. The 20% Cab Franc shows up through the finish in a very engaging way. This is a lot of wine for the price and should thrill Bordeaux fans of all types over the next 15-20 years.

One of our more estimable producers has to be St-Emilions stunning Château Barde-Haut, under the wise, felicitous guidance of Hélène Garcin-Leveque and her husband Patrice. Her unmatched dynamism as an ambassador of her familys portfolio and his intimate, working knowledge of the amphitheater of vines under his watchful eye, are the epitome of synergy. The 2015 Barde-Haut St-Emilion $44.99 is on track to be one of the best wines ever produced at this estate, echoing the words of the Patrice Lévèque, no makeup, just a truthful wine that will age! An elegant, richly imbued wine, with aromas of ripe black plum and bright cherry following through on the palate with touches of spice, loam and leather. This wine will evolve for another decade if you have the desired patience, but why wait?

Barde Haut is one of K&L's go to wines for value. Helene Garcin Leveque and her husband Patrice have done an amazing job in the last 15 years. The 2015 vintage was exceptional in St Emilion and Barde Haut hit it out of the park. Tons of black fruit aromas that follow to the palate. Sweet and ripe and delicious right now. Can cellar ten more years.
