CES 2025 opens today amid AI revolution

Gadgets, robots and vehicles imbued with artificial intelligence will once again vie for attention at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES), as vendors behind the scenes seek ways to deal with tariffs threatened by President-elect Donald Trump. The annual high-tech showcase opens formally today in Las Vegas, but the preceding days have been packed with product announcements. Artificial intelligence (AI) will be a major theme of the show, along with autonomous vehicles ranging from tractors and boats to lawn mowers and golf club trollies.

Trudeau's 'political rock star' career falls

The term "political rock star" has not been applied to many Canadian prime ministers, but when Justin Trudeau won a landslide election in 2015, it appeared to fit. Now, more than nine years after he wooed voters with a progressive agenda, Trudeau is leaving office, forced out by former Liberal party allies while being mocked by President-elect Donald Trump. He credited his family for his career in politics, which included three terms as PM. Trudeau was narrowly re-elected to lead minority governments in 2019 and 2021 before stepping down in 2025.

Those cooking or selling the American staple could be detained and sentenced to the country's labor camps.
