US consumer confidence plunges to lowest level since 2021
US Consumer confidence has plunged the most in years as Americans worry about their jobs. The index fell in September to 98.7 from 105.6 in August. Consumers were more pessimistic about future labor market conditions and less positive about future business conditions and future income. Despite slower overall inflation and declines in some goods prices, average 12-month inflation expectations increased to 5.2% in September.

US expected to face major labor shortage by end of decade
The US is expected to face a labor shortage of six million workers before the end of the decade. For the first time in US history, more people will turn 65 than 16, depleting its working population. US death row sees busiest week in decades

Two men were executed Tuesday night and two more are scheduled for this week in the busiest period on death row in the U.S. since 2003. Marcellus Williams received a lethal injection in Missouri on Tuesday, followed by Texas' execution of Travis James Mullis. Freddie Owens was executed in South Carolina on Friday, marking a pace of death sentences carried out not seen in decades. If the executions go on as scheduled, it will be the first time five inmates have been put to death in one week since 2003, based on Death Penalty Information Center data.

SBF's ex-girlfriend sentenced in FTX scam

Convicted cryptocurrency fraudster Sam Bankman-Fried's former girlfriend was sentenced Tuesday to two years in prison for her role in the $11 billion collapse of his FTX exchange and Alameda Research hedge fund. Caroline Ellison, 29, who struck a plea deal and served as the star witness at SBFs trial, apologized in U.S. District Court in New York City. Ellison said that the longer she worked as Alameda's CEO, the more wrapped up she became with what SBF thought of her.

America's oldest mayor still rolling at 100

America's oldest mayor, now a centenarian, is now revealing his post-politics plans as his term is set to end in 2025. Vito Perillo was elected mayor of his New Jersey hometown at 93. The Tinton Falls mayor is said to be the oldest mayor in America, after being elected to the office in 2017. Perillo, who would be 101 at the time the next election, has reportedly informed friends that he has his eyes set on another position.
