Biden says Netanyahu not doing enough to save hostages
Amid protests in the US and Israel, US President Joe Biden said on Monday that he didn't think Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu was doing enough to secure a deal for a cease-fire and to free the hostages held by Hamas in Gaza, adding that he was going to propose an agreement to both sides this week. Biden was questioned about the negotiations at the White House after Israeli forces recovered the bodies of six hostages in tunnels under Gaza, including American-Israeli Hersh Goldberg-Polin. The discovery of the bodies sparked massive protests in Israel.

Dow Jones Industrial looks to continue record-breaking pace
The Dow Jones Industrial Average reopens today after posting its fourth record-breaking performance over last week, following a positive inflation report from the Commerce Department. The Dow closed up 0.6% on Friday, a 0.2% jump in prices to 2.5%. That's the same inflation rate from the same period last year, and only a 0.1% increase from the previous month. U.S. consumer spending solidly increased in July, indicating the economy remained strong.

A nationwide strike aimed at pressuring Israel's government into securing the release of the remaining hostages in Gaza was called by the nation's largest union to paralyze the economy after a night of massive demonstrations, with tens of thousands of protesters taking to the streets. Demonstrators accused the government of not doing enough to save them, and called for an immediate ceasefire to rescue the dozens still captive. Protests also erupted throughout the US.
