New details are emerging about how ISIS inspired the terrorist attack in New Orleans carried out by Shamsud-Din Jabbar. The US Army veteran and native of Texas posted videos to his social media platform shortly before the terror attack saying he was inspired by the Islamic State.The chilling videos appear to have been recorded while he was driving from Texas to New Orleans to carry out the attack. Authorities found items linking Jabbar to the Islamic State in his rented pickup truck, including an ISIS flag.

Tesla reports lower 2024 auto deliveries, missing forecast
Tesla reported a dip in full-year auto sales Thursday, missing a company forecast in a sign of rising electric vehicle competition in China and other markets. Elon Musk's EV company reported 495,570 fourth-quarter deliveries. While that represented a quarterly record, it lagged behind estimates and resulted in full year-sales of just under 1.8 million vehicles. This was around 1% fewer than the 2023 sales, even as Tesla said in October that it expected a "slight growth" in vehicle deliveries for the year.

Power restored to Puerto Rico following island-wide outage
Power has been restored to most of Puerto Rico after a major blackout plunged the island into darkness on New Year's Eve, the US territory's electric utility said. Electricity had been restored to at least 1.44 million customers, or 98.3% of those affected, by Thursday, the power company said, adding that preliminary findings indicated a fault in an underground cable may have been the cause of the outage, although investigations continue.

Las Vegas Cybertruck driver was Army vet

Law enforcement has painted a picture of the driver who died in the Tesla Cybertruck explosion in Las Vegas as a decorated U.S. Army serviceman with no history of disciplinary actions. Matthew Livelsberger was an active-duty Army member who was on approved leave stateside from an overseas assignment. Army officials said he has no previous disciplinarian issues and was described by his colleagues as a "good soldier." Livelsberger, 37, who was from Colorado Springs, died in a Tesla Cybertruck that exploded in front of the Trump International Hotel, owned by President-elect Donald Trump.

Eastern half of US bracing for Arctic blast

The eastern half of the U.S. is bracing for a major drop in temperatures that could lead to a host of winter weather woes subsequent to an expected blast of Arctic air. The National Weather Service's Weather Prediction Center called for a dangerous bout of winter weather as the polar vortex dips into the Northeast, Midwest and even the Southern US states through the weekend. A system from Canada is expected to bring heavy lake-effect snow near the Great Lakes, while the Ohio Valley and Appalachians are also expecting up to 12 inches of snowfall.

Piece of space debris hits African village

In a scene straight out of the cult classic "The Gods Must Be Crazy," a piece of space debris weighing more than 1,100 pounds crashed into a village in Kenya. The Kenya Space Agency said a "metallic ring" 8 feet in diameter "fell from the skies" and landed in Mukuku Village. Agency personnel responded to the village to examine the object, which preliminary assessments indicate is "a separation ring from a launch vehicle (rocket)." The agency said it would work to identify the owner.
