A Hollywood ending for the Paris Olympics

Hollywood scripted a glittering ending to the Paris Olympics on Sunday as the French capital handed over the reins to 2028 hosts Los Angeles. Tom Cruise  played a starring role at the closing ceremony with a spectacular stunt sequence to mark the passing of the Games from Paris to Los Angeles, which involved the handing of the Olympic flag from one city to the other. Also on the cast list were A-list acts Billie Eilish and the Red Hot Chili Peppers, performing from Los Angeles.

Venezuelan high court to issue 'final' ruling

The ruling that Venezuela's Supreme Court will deliver on the disputed presidential election will be "final," the body's president said. Opposition leaders insist that their candidate, Edmundo Gonzalez Urrutia, won overwhelmingly, and they have produced what they say are official tallies from voting sites as evidence. President Nicolas Maduro called on the high court on Aug. 1 to "validate" a victory questioned both at home and abroad. The court heard from candidates, including Maduro.
