Every year we take a little time to ask for the thoughts, hopes, concerns, and ideas of people experiencing hunger for a simple reason: to end hunger, we need to listen to the people experiencing it.

And what they have to share is sometimes heartbreaking, sometimes inspiring, but always informative.

Here's just a little taste of what we heard from the more than one thousand community members who responded:

  • Many are forced to choose between buying food or covering essentials like healthcare or rent. As one neighbor put it, "When I got cut off of food stamps, I was afraid I wouldn't be able to make my car payment."
  • Having a steady job is no guarantee of not facing hunger. One neighbor noted, "Everything in this world feels unaccessible, even when you work yourself to death."
  • Hope comes through community: "Difficult days have brought my support team closer together to help each other."

We're so grateful to the 1,495 neighbors who took the time to answer our questions, and you'll find so much more in the full Elevating Voices: Insights Report—the 3rd report of its kind.

We encourage you to check it out and, of course, to play a part in the movement to end hunger. These pages make it clearer than ever that it's going to take all of us to end hunger in America.

Let's listen, and let's get to work.

With gratitude,

Feeding America
