Here's the top four ways supporter donations turned into progress in ending hunger this year: #1 Provided essential supplies in response to three major hurricanes Hurricane Debby. Then Helene. Then Milton. Feeding America and local food banks were on the ground before, during, and after each disaster delivering truckloads of food, water, and other relief supplies to the affected communities. The Feeding America network of food banks have distributed over 178 truckloads of emergency food and water to 15 food banks across six states, with extra support from over 4,300 generous gifts from donors like you. #2 Distributed food to neighbors who need it with support from our 200 partner food banks According to the USDA, 1 in 7 people, including 1 in 5 kids, don't have access to the food that they need. Our goal is to one day get those numbers to zero. But in the meantime, we give out as much food as we can so more of our neighbors have the food they need to thrive. In 2023, the Feeding America network distributed 5.3 billion meals through partners. That's not just a number—it represents countless moments of hope and relief for families, seniors, and children facing food insecurity! We're still crunching all the numbers for 2024. #3 Rescued billions of pounds of good food Food waste is a huge problem in America, with over 20% of landfill volume filled with uneaten, perfectly good food—all while millions are without the food they need. As the largest food rescue organization in the U.S., we build partnerships at every level—from small local growers to the biggest food manufacturers in the country—to rescue billions of pounds of food from going to waste each year. It's one of the main reasons donations to Feeding America can stretch so far, providing at least 10 meals for every $1 donated! #4 Released the only study that provides local-level data on hunger in America Our 2024 Map the Meal Gap report made it clear how rising food prices have made it harder for people to afford enough food. The report is the only study that provides local-level estimates of food insecurity and food costs for every county and congressional district in the U.S. This kind of research is key to driving the policy changes needed to end hunger. That's some list! But if it leaves you wanting to know more, you can dive deeper into how Feeding America is tackling hunger across America here. I hope you also take a second to feel proud that you've chosen to be part of all this incredible work. It simply wouldn't happen without the compassion and support of thousands of people like you. With gratitude,
