Welcome to the first days of summer and to the June newsletter. Before you switch into July 4 celebration mode, we’ve got some science and company news to get excited about. We’re now enrolling Index users in
TIME-ZZZ, a study on the associations between chronotype, sleep quality, mental health, and biological aging. Sleep expert Russell Foster, Ph.D., is the principal investigator, and he’s hosting an exclusive
webinar for all members of the Elysium community. Also in the June newsletter, we offer a warm welcome to Mark Sarzynski, Ph.D., who joins Elysium's Scientific Advisory Board; chief scientist Leonard Guarente, Ph.D., talks longevity science on the news in Los Angeles; and
Town & Country picks the
Longevity Starter Pack for its “best wellness gifts” guide.

We’re pleased to announce a very special webinar with Dr. Foster:
Sleep, Circadian Rhythms and Health: Looking Forward to Healthy Aging. Our bodies require very intricate molecular and cellular coordination to function optimally—the correct materials, delivered to the correct tissues and organs, in the right concentration, at the appropriate time of day. This structure is provided by our body clock, and without it our biological systems break down, impacting growth, metabolism, memory formation, immune function, and more. As we age our circadian drive becomes less robust. In this short presentation, Dr. Foster will outline what we know and, more importantly, what we do not know about the impact of age on our circadian and sleep biology.
|
All members of the Elysium community (that’s you!) are invited to join the webinar, which will take place on
Tuesday, July 16th at 11 a.m. - 12 p.m. EST. Register using the link below.

Welcome Mark Sarzynski, Ph.D., to Elysium’s Scientific Advisory Board
|
|
|
|
We’re pleased to announce that Mark Sarzynski, Ph.D., has joined our Scientific Advisory Board, which includes more than two dozen pioneers in science and medicine. Dr. Sarzynski is an Associate Professor of Exercise Science in the Arnold School of Public Health at the University of South Carolina and Director of the HERITAGE Family Study. He is a fellow of both the American Heart Association and American College of Sports Medicine, and was a recipient of the Scott Grundy Fellowship Award for Excellence in Metabolism Research.
|
Dr. Sarzynski’s research focuses on the effects of lifestyle—particularly exercise—on cardiometabolic health and disease, and identifying the molecular transducers underlying individual differences in response to lifestyle interventions. The goal is to better predict which individuals are most likely to benefit from lifestyle therapies in the management of cardiometabolic disease and to identify the molecular factors contributing to the cardioprotective benefits of a healthy lifestyle. He has contributed to some of the most impactful papers in the exercise genomics and exercise omics fields, including the first-ever genome-wide association study (GWAS) on exercise response.
|
“Better understanding the molecular mechanisms underlying healthy aging trajectories will allow for a personalized medicine approach across the lifespan.” - Mark Sarzynski, Ph.D.
|
We’re thrilled to welcome Dr. Sarzynski to the Board and to the Elysium team.

KTLA 5 News in Los Angeles interviews Leonard Guarente, Ph.D.
|
|
|
|
Elysium chief scientist
Leonard Guarente, Ph.D., kicked off the first day of summer by appearing on KTLA 5 News in Los Angeles to talk about longevity science and his tips for healthy aging. The segment covered a lot of territory: calorie restriction, brain aging, and a variety of evidence-based lifestyle suggestions. One of the anchors asked whether calorie restriction helps with longevity.
“There’s some data suggesting that calorie restriction slows [biological] aging,” Dr. Guarente said.
“The problem is that it’s really difficult for people to do over time.” He explained how calorie restriction works in part by raising levels of NAD+ in our cells—and how NAD+ supplements like
Basis and
Signal are proven ways to restore and maintain NAD+ levels with age.
|
Dr. Guarente also recommended Matter for brain aging, as well as a variety of lifestyle tips for brain health and longevity, including reading and crossword puzzles, staying hydrated, omega-3 fatty acids, playing a musical instrument, following the Mediterranean diet, and maintaining social connections.
“Social connections are really important,” he said.
“Years ago my mom told me that loneliness kills. In the interim, there’s been a lot of scientific data that proves she was right. So stay connected to people.”

The world is your wellness oyster, according to
Town & Country, where Sophie Dweck and Grace Smith put together a list of the magazine’s favorite health and wellness gifts. We were pleased to find that our limited edition
Longevity Starter Pack made the list, complete with
Basis,
Mosaic,
Matter, and
Format.
“Co-founded by an MIT professor, Elysium Health is a science-backed wellness brand that specializes in dietary supplements that...support a healthy well-being,” they write.
T&C also wrote about
Index and interviewed Elysium chief scientist Leonard Guarente, Ph.D., a few months ago. We’re thrilled to see our portfolio of products—and longevity science—resonating so strongly with their audience.
