OLFACTORY FATIGUE
When you love a fragrance, you want it to last forever.
But that simply isn’t possible. After a certain amount of time, scents dissipate and become less detectable. So, the seemingly simple solution is to apply more of that fragrance, right?
It’s a little more complicated than that. Like your eyes and tongue, your nose can get worn out from too much of the same thing.
Think about your favorite food. If you ate that same food day after day, you would eventually start to lose your taste for it. Sure, you would still taste it, but it wouldn’t have the same burst of flavor on the taste buds that made you fall in love with it to begin with.
The same thing happens to your nose when your olfactory nerve is subjected to the same scents daily. You start to become desensitized to that scent. This is known as olfactory fatigue.
The good news is that you can prevent olfactory fatigue by rotating the fragrances you subject your nose to. An easy way to do this is to alternate the fragrances you wear from week to week.
Keep your fragrances in rotation, and they’ll stay fresher on your nose (and the noses of everyone around you) for longer.
