OIL OR BALM?
Should I use Utility Oil or Utility Balm?
We get that question a lot. And the answer always depends on a myriad of factors. But when you have a long, curly beard, we 100% recommend using both Utility Oil and Utility Balm.
But we’ll let Jeffrey tell ya about it:

“I use both: oil on first, balm after that. I have a long curly beard, and I have found that both help in different ways.”

Styling your beard is a personal journey, and there’s no one-size-fits-all approach. That said, the following routine tends to work really well for creating a more defined curly beard:
1. Apply Utility Oil after you get out of the shower, focusing on the skin beneath your beard.
2. Apply Utility Balm while your beard is damp. Use a scrunching pattern to help the hair curl more. Utility Balm contains beeswax and can give the curl a slight hold.
3. If you need more hold, add a small amount of Beardbrand Styling paste using the same scrunching technique.
4. Let things air dry. When the beard is completely dry, shape the curls a little more by using the same scrunching technique.
Grab some Utility Oil and Utility Balm and unfurl those curls.
