"The 2023 Syrah Santa Barbara County will be gorgeous, offering bright black and blue fruits as well as some peppery, violets, and exotic floral nuances. It's beautifully balanced, medium to full-bodied, has ripe tannins, and a great finish." - Jeb Dunnuck
If you are not familiar with the wines from Joey Tensley ... this is the wine you should start with.
Joey Tensley is an iconic and renowned winemaker from California who specialized in Rhone-Style wines. He began his career in the wine industry in the early 1990s, working as a cellar rat for Fess Parker Winery. After gaining experience and knowledge, he started his own venture, Tensley Wines in 1998. He sourced his grapes from top vineyards in Santa Barbara and his Estate Vineyard using traditional winemaking techniques, including hand picking and fermentation in small batches, to craft exceptional wines.
Tensley wines have made the Wine Spectator’s Top 100, scored 99 points with Robert Parker, and won Food & Wine Magazine’s award for the top Syrah in America. Matt Kramer of the Wine Spectator named two of Tensley’s Syrahs Top Ten in the world.
"2023 was an amazing year as a wine grower (just not as great for grape growers). It was a very long, cool growing season, with lots of rain early on. The fruits hung out on the vines long into the season with a record breaking late harvest giving the grapes much needed time to develop their full potential and ripeness.
These wines have finesse, body and structure with the uniqueness and characteristics of these special vineyards shining through brightly. This vintage produced some magnificent wines that are exceptional to drink now but will also age gracefully for years to come." - Winery
