This is a surefire 6-pack purchase for all red wine drinkers!!
The gorgeous countryside of Umbria sits north of Rome in the middle of the Italian "boot". It borders Tuscany to the west, Lazio to its south, and the coastal region Le Marche to the east. Umbria is a bastion for value in Italian wine, and a source for some of the finest - albeit lesser known - vineyards in the entire country.
A prime example is the Vitalonga estate, where you will find rolling hillside vineyards that are drenched in sunlight from morning to night. You might expect to find a typical Sangiovese or Sagrantino based wine as a dynamic red here, but this forward-thinking winery has planted some Bordeaux varieties to showcase the incredible Umbrian terroir.
Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Sangiovese - a nod to tradition - combine for the Elcione Rosso. What a show this one is! A mineral and red-fruited nose merges perfectly with the smooth and elegant palate. A touch of mild spice on the finish intertwines nicely with a soft tannin structure - a nice bow to wrap this mega-value up nicely!
The value of this Umbrian beauty is unparalleled - opening this one alongside a pasta or pizza dinner will not only be the perfect pairing to enhance the meal, but also won't leave you feeling regret in the pocketbook!
A surefire 6-pack purchase for all red wine drinkers!!
"The 2021 opens to inviting aromas of cherries and plums which are laced with spices, tobacco, earth and hints of licorice nuances all taking shape. Medium-bodied and structured with fine-grained tannins and fresh acidity that frames the core of red fruits and spices which persist throughout. This lovely Rosso that is drink beautifully today and should continue to evolve with short-term cellaring." - 93 Points International Wine Report
"Aromas of lavender, ripe raspberries, plums and peppercorns. Medium-bodied with firm, chewy tannins. Youthful and rustic. Drink from 2023." - 90 Points James Suckling
