Double 95 point scores for the best Chianti Classico Gran Selezione we have tasted in recent memory! Listen to Antonio Galloni and "Don't miss it"!
Rocca Di Castagnoli is an ancient estate in the Chianti region of Tuscany. It started as a medieval fortress protecting the village of Castagnoli and has transformed into an estate, resort, and, most importantly, a center for premium Chianti Classicos. The Stielle Hill, where this cuvee originates from, is one of the most important for the estate. Grapes have been grown here since 1153 and the site has remained recognized due to its high elevation, excellent sun exposure, and expressive terroir.
Bottom line, this is one of the finest representations of Sangiovese we have come across in a long time.
The palate is packed with red fruits accompanied by fresh spice, roasted herbs, balsamic notes and earthy characteristics. Every sip brings something new and that level of complexity makes this an instant classic.
The critics agree, this is a remarkable bottle of wine that is just entering its drinking window but will also last 15-20+ years in the cellar. Every collector or Italian wine lover needs to check out the reviews below and grab this by the case!
"The 2017 Chianti Classico Gran Selezione Stielle takes all the signatures of the estate and turns up the volume, resulting in an ample, dramatic wine that hits all the right notes. Black cherry, mocha, lavender, spice and leather build into the intense, palate-staining finish. The 2017 is such a gorgeous and vivid Gran Selezione. Don't miss it." - 95 Points Antonio Galloni, Vinous
"Ripe berries, dried flowers and orange peel with some smoke. Full-bodied with round, chewy tannins that provide lots of texture and structure. From organically grown grapes. Needs time to soften. Try after 2023." - 95 Points James Suckling
