Outstanding from start to finish, this is a mind-blowing value!!
One of the hottest regions for value-based, utterly scrumptious wines these days is Beaujolais - and the Thevenet family is behind one of the founding domaines to bring this often-overlooked area back to the forefront!
In the late 1970s, Jean-Paul Thevenet heeded advice from his fellow Beaujolais vigneron and mentor, the legendary Jules Chauvet, and turned to a natural vinification approach - something that had benefited some pretty famous friends and shown to produce incredibly outstanding wines from Gamay. Those friends - none other than Marcel Lapierre, Jean Foillard and Guy Breton! - eventually formed with Thevenet to create a loosely aligned group of what is the modern, top-notch Beaujolais we love these days!
Thevenet's 2020 Regnie "En Voiture Simone...” comes from 50-60 year old vines and is a gorgeous expression of Regnie's telltale fleshy, fruity balance that makes Gamay so compelling. In the hands of a less talented winemaker this fruit might fall flat, but in the hands of Charly Thevenet (Jean-Paul's son, and current shepherd of the estate) this is a world-class expression of this top Cru.
Outstanding from start to finish, and a mind-blowing value!!
"Why not take a drive in this unusually complex and elegant wine for this appellation, with very silky tannins and delicately lemony acidity supporting the generous body. The minerality builds seriously at the long, very polished finish. Drink or hold." - 93 Points James Suckling
