Ciacci Piccolomini is one of the finest and most sought-after producers in all of Italy!
Ciacci's wines are highly sought after and sell out almost every year. And it's no surprise given the exceptional degree of class and elegance inherent in the wines. The style here shows remarkable finesse with fine tannins and gorgeous, defined red fruit. While it is lovely in its youth, it also ages with considerable grace.
The origins of the property date back to the 17th century with a rich history of agriculture. While it went through a few different owners and ideas of what the property should be used to create, it has now settled into being one of the best wineries in Tuscany.
There are only 55.5 Hectares of vines on the property that are all on a southeast facing sloped mountain side. They grow a few different grapes here, but it is no doubt that Sangiovese is king. The high levels of Marl and Shale soils give the wine the earthiness that makes Brunello what it is!
When all is said and done, this might be the biggest buy of the vintage based on the price!
"Forest berry, spice, hay and menthol aromas mingle with whiffs of new leather on this stunning, fragrant Brunello. A top-scorer vintage after vintage, the 2018 combines elegance and a full body, delivering dried cherry, blood orange, licorice and ground clove alongside firm but refined tannins. Bright acidity keeps it energized while a saline mineral note adds depth to the finish. Drink 2026–2038." - 97 Points Kerin O’Keefe, November 2022 ©kerinokeefe.com
"Roasted herbs, walnuts, olives, dried cherries and balsamic on the nose with a touch of leather and sage. It’s full-bodied with firm, finely-knit tannins. Creamy and so well integrated with depth and class. Try after 2024." - 95 Points James Suckling
