FALL 2024
Camp Tracksmith
|
|
Some of my fondest memories are from the pre-season training camps we’d organize before the start of the cross country season. In high school, these were captain’s practices. We’d meet at the park and run the lake loop or explore the trails up on the ridge. (Yes, I’m talking about North Park for you Pittsburgh readers.) There were a lot of shenanigans. Sure, we’d get in shape, but no one remembers the pace; it was the bonds we were forming and the memories we forged.
In college, before school started, we’d travel to someone’s house in the woods for several days. The running was way more serious - more miles and harder workouts - and the memories seemed to settle even deeper. Four days in a house with a dozen teammates will do that, to the point that I still remember certain moments from those camps as if it were yesterday.
To honor the days that I once enjoyed treeside with my teammates, we recreated the experience via Camp Tracksmith. In 2014, we gathered athletes out in the sticks of New England for a long weekend of running that was reminiscent of the routine we used to chase before the start of every fall season.
Ten years later and we returned to the rural roads (many of which we’ve run before) to stay true to tradition. Some athletes from the very first Camp Tracksmith even made their way back to the grounds, a testament to the consistency runners cherish. A lot can change in a decade, but a runner’s need to lace up their trainers and log miles with friends may never waver. Here’s to the Class of 2014.

TAILORED PERFORMANCE COLLECTION
Classically Tracksmith
|
|
Like every runner, we’re always in pursuit of a personal best. And that means putting as much focus on the process as the desired outcome. This approach drives product creation at Tracksmith, too. When we add something to our line, we champion quality and construction techniques, and we cultivate an environment that pushes the boundaries of fabric technology. Regardless of whether it’s a new innovation or a remastered classic, we try to give space to the process.

10TH ANNIVERSARY GRAYBOY
Before launching Tracksmith, I started collecting team-issued cotton tees. My favorites were from the late 70’s / early 80’s. Decades later, after likely hundreds of washes, they were still in great shape. To recreate the comfort and durability of this sentimental staple, we came up with the Grayboy – a cotton tee so remarkable that you’ll look forward to making it a hand-me-down. As we celebrate our 10-year milestone, we’ve brought some of our favorite graphics back to life.

SESSION SHORTS
When developing the Session Shorts, we wanted to produce a workhorse – one that can take on any workout, any day of the week. For almost a decade, these best-sellers have done just that, offering unbeatable versatility in a straightforward silhouette. But it felt like they were ready for an upgrade. The all-new Session Shorts have a streamlined waistband, enhanced liner, and improved pocketry.

A LOOK BACK
Twilight 5000
|
|
It’s that time of year when we start to move away from the track and back to the roads and cross country trails. But before we put away our spikes, we’d be remiss to not mention the Twilight 5000 series. We originally came up with the idea to provide as many runners as possible with the opportunity to test themselves on the track under the lights - something most of us don’t get a chance to do after high school or college. What started four years ago as a grassroots race along the Charles River in Boston has grown into a summer-long series across 19 cities worldwide. We’ve found the perfect recipe of competition and community – warm evenings on the track, an atmosphere saturated in energy, and the opportunity for runners to meet other runners and chase personal goals. The series' fastest finishes for both men and women took place in London, clocking in at 13:54 and 16:01 respectively. With these performances, along with countless others from amateurs around the world, this year did not disappoint.

In the current state of the season, a run can have you chasing the chill one second and breaking a sweat the next – at least for us here in New England. That’s why some of our most sought-after staples are powered by Merino wool, a natural performance fiber that regulates temperature and resists odor. It’s an integral ingredient in our Harrier Tee, which we’ve recently revamped with 37.5® Technology, an innovative treatment that manages moisture to maintain your body’s temperature. I’ll be getting as much use out of the short sleeve as possible before we get too far into fall. Then, I’ll be reaching for another Merino-made piece, the Brighton Base Layer, which is now available in a new color and our first striped pattern. And later this season, we’ll be releasing several new Merino styles, including a remastered version of a classic and an amazing seamless bodywear collection that I was able to wear test last winter. To learn more about Merino’s reach across our range of products, we’ve broken it all down in a guide.

One down, two to go. If you’re running one of the Fall Majors this year, you might be hitting your peak mileage or attacking those marathon pace sessions. We look forward to the renowned routes of these major marathons all year, anticipating the tension and triumph these races bring forth. And with Berlin under our belt, Chicago and New York anxiously await the arrival of athletes from all over the world (as does the Tracksmith team). We’ll be around at each of the Fall Majors, sharing in the shakeouts, shopping, and celebrations that we host for each race.

Two Down (Under), Two to Go? The creation of the Marathon Majors was a great business decision for the co-founding races: Boston, London, Berlin, Chicago and New York. (It did little to help grow the sport from the fan perspective given the confusing point system and two-year span of its “season,” but I digress… ) Granted, most of those races were already coveted by amateur runners around the world. But formalizing them under the umbrella of the “Majors” created a newfound desire to cross the finish line. Tokyo was officially added in 2013, which provided symmetry to the year, with 3 spring and 3 fall races. But now there is talk of a 7th Major. An announcement is expected in October and all bets (and recent moves) point to Sydney. So next fall, at this time, we could have two Majors in the books with two more to go.

10 Years of Grit & Grandeur I’ll never forget the first Tracksmith shoot. We invited 3 runners - 3 strangers - to a cabin in the middle of the woods in New Hampshire and asked them to put in a hard weekend of training. I didn’t know what to expect. Our photographer, Emily Maye, would document everything, not just running. But there was one moment that clicked for me, on a long run, behind the wheel of the minivan, watching things play out in the rearview mirror. Ten years later, Emily is still shooting for Tracksmith. It’s a testament to her work, but also our belief in consistency over a long period of time. We asked Emily to curate a collection of 10 images that have stuck with 10 years on.
