Dear Sabah People,
I’ve been wearing my pair of hand tooled Babas for almost 60 days - photographed above. The design we call 'Tin Ceiling' as it reflects the patterns often found on historic tin ceilings in New York City.
It was the first pair I had made as a personal project; an idea born through conversation with the craftspeople in our El Paso Workshop. Many of them come from the world of cowboy making, where hand tooled leather is used in the highest end custom boots, commanding a premium.
Today, we release a very limited edition of just 50 hand tooled pairs as part of our Collector’s Series, which celebrates rare craft techniques & materials from around the world. Each of the vegetable tanned leather uppers was hand-tooled by generational artisans in León, Mexico before being crafted into a Baba in El Paso.
My own pair has turned a beautiful golden brown, the patina & richness accentuated by the pattern carved into the leather. They’re a statement piece for sure.
Find yours on the Sabah Portal today or visit a Sabah House to see a pair in person, and place an order this weekend. They won't last long!
Sincerely, The Sabah Dealer --
