Father's Day Special: Parenthood Tested

Hi There,

If you’ve been with us for a while, you know that we love tests - whether in the lab (Martindale for abrasion, or ASTM for airflow) or out in the world (running a half-marathon in our Kinetic Suit to test its stretch). 

 
MOS testing - then and now 

When my son Bjørn was born in 2020, it felt like a completely new kind of test for our products. Could our clothes make my hectic mornings simpler without stressing about what to wear? Could they get me out the door in one piece - no matter what minefields of yogurt splatters and (literal) spilled milk lay ahead? Could they help me roll right in from a long day to squeeze in a few extra minutes of precious playtime without needing to stop and change?

My wife Karo and I just had a second son a few weeks ago - and after a few sleepless weeks, I’m back to share some of my favorite parenting tests and takeaways with you this Father's Day weekend.

1. Braving the Mega Slide (Abrasion Tested):

We have an incredibly long slide near our house - 90’ long with an 18’ drop. Bjørn insists on going down it in tandem. I’d be worried about the stainless steel’s welded seams absolutely ruining normal khakis - but with the durability of my Pace Tapered Chinos, I don’t have to hesitate when he asks for “one more time.”

2. Quick Dry, Quick Clean (Easy Care Tested):

The upper left side of my Apollo Raglan Sport Shirt has been a constant target for the aftermath of our newborn’s post-bottle burping. Fortunately, Apollo’s fabric makeup and construction mean a quick wipe with a damp cloth can save me an outfit change (especially helpful when we’re on the go). 

Spit-up commencing in T-minus 3… 2… 1…

3. Jogging Round the Jungle Gym (Stretch Tested):

The walk home from daycare pickup usually includes a stop at the playground. We’ve now crossed an inflection point where Bjørn can outpace me climbing through the jungle gym, but the stretch of my Kinetic Pants means I don’t have to stress about blowing seams (no matter how awkward a position I find myself in).

It all came together for me last month during my newborn son’s birth. I wore my classic Hybrid Dress Shirt to the hospital - I wanted something t-shirt soft, with a button front for skin-to-skin time, that would allow me to cover up when needed.
