For most of June, I was ensconced in (and working from) the middle of the Umbrian countryside. We had one wonderful city weekend in Milan—we wanted a break from Italian food, so we made a pact to explore other cuisines and do a bit of shopping.
I love to stop at Nilufar Depot to see Nina Yashar’s amazing mid-century and contemporary treasures. We also went to this very cool Japanese store called Time & Style (actually a small chain), which is full of simple ceramics, glass, and furniture. Martina Mondadori—of Cabana Magazine fame, and one of Milan’s most stylish women—opened a shop that showcases the signature Cabana style. I bought some beautiful baskets and table dressing. (Bitossi Home and Osanna Visconti are also great shops in Milan.)
Orto Botanico di Brera is the most special walled garden in the center of Milan, with so many species of plants and trees. We also went to Lanna Thai Massage Centre for amazing, well, Thai massages. There was a fantastic Yohji Yamamoto exhibition at 10 Corso Como, and we stopped at Fondazione Prada as Brad wanted to see the Godard studio and I wanted to eat paninis in the Wes Anderson café (my one exception to the no-Italian-food rule for the weekend). We ate at an outstanding Japanese place called Bentoteca for dinner on the first night. And had an exceptional Chinese meal the second night at Gong. An American chopped salad at Ralph Lauren rounded it out.
Love, Gwyneth
