I ended up reading and loving Trust by Hernan Diaz, a century-spanning novel with an imaginative structure (which won a Pulitzer Prize last year). And Jesmyn Ward’s latest novel, Let Us Descend, is amazing. I’m about halfway through Demon Copperhead—it’s beautifully written, but it’s quite dark. I don’t know if I have the stomach to finish it.
There are a handful of novels publishing in the first half of 2024 that I’m hoping to read, including: Wandering Stars by Tommy Orange, Real Americans by Rachel Khong, and Exhibit by R. O. Kwon. I’m also intrigued by two forthcoming memoirs: Alphabetical Diaries by Sheila Heti and Splinters by Leslie Jamison.
